One tube, two or three: the arithmetic

Apagard tubes hold from 100 g to 135 g and come one, two or three to a pack. Two sums put them on the same footing.

Is it cheaper to buy Apagard in a pack of three?

Often, not always. The lowest price per tube right now is $14.00, and only 2 lines are sold in multi-packs.

Price per 100 g levels the tube sizes

A Premio tube and an M-plus tube are not the same size, so price per tube flatters the smaller one. Dividing by weight removes that.

Packs with two stated tube weights cannot be priced by the gram. For those the sum would rest on a guess.

Which Apagard is the best value by weight?

It changes with the price. Tubes run from 100 g to 135 g, so the cheapest per gram is not always the cheapest per tube.

What the sums leave out

Arithmetic says nothing about type. A stain-care tube and a standard tube are different products, and a low price per gram does not make one a substitute for the other.

It also says nothing about delivery, which the checkout sets and which can outweigh a small difference per tube.
